tips for choosing an energy-efficient light bulb
  A-Type

This shape provides omni-directional light (light that shines in all directions) which makes it ideal for most locations, including lamps, wall sconces and ceiling fixtures.

  PAR30

Use to replace a 50-75W floodlight in recessed cans, track lighting or ceiling fans.

  R30

Use to replace a 65-90W reflector in a recessed can.

  PAR38

Use to replace a 50-100W floodlight in track lighting, ceiling fans, or more commonly, outdoors.

  R40

Use to replace a 65-120W reflector in a recessed can or in the bathroom.

  Decorative

Use in decorative fixture applications, such as chandeliers or outdoor porch lamps.

Most LED bulbs are dimmable. If your fixture is on a dimmer switch, check the packaging to ensure the bulb is labeled "dimmable".

  Globe

Use to replace bulbs in fixtures where lamp is visible. Bath bar or any downward facing socket.

To find the CFL or LED with the same amount of light as the bulb it is replacing, look for lumens on the
package. The higher the lumen number, the brighter the light. Then find the bulb with the lowest
energy use (watts).
